What is an IP Number?
An IP Number (short for Internet Protocol) is a unique numerical label assigned to every device connected to a network. It helps identify devices, enables communication and reveals useful information such as location, ISP, organization and more.

IP lookup, explained
Type any IPv4 or IPv6 IP Number into the search box above and this IP Number search tool returns its approximate geographic location, ISP, ASN, and connection type in under a second, the same IP Number information websites, developers, and IT teams check every day. Prefer to start with your own IP Number instead? It's already shown in the panel above. It won't pinpoint an exact street location. No legitimate IP lookup tool can, since IP Number geolocation maps to an ISP's routing hub rather than GPS coordinates, but for finding the city, region, and country behind a connection, it's about as close to instant as it gets.
What does an IP lookup show?
Enter any IPv4 or IPv6 IP Number above and this tool queries the same GeoIP databases it reads your own connection against: approximate location (country, region, city, and timezone), the ISP or hosting provider it's assigned to, its ASN (the registered network ID), and, where detectable, whether it's a residential, business, or hosting/datacenter connection.
How accurate is the location?
IP Number geolocation maps an IP Number to the ISP hub or data center it's routed through, not GPS coordinates. Across the industry, that's typically reliable at the country level (commonly cited around 95-99% accuracy), less so at the region or state level (roughly 55-80%), and more approximate again at the city level (around 50-75%), since a single ISP hub can serve a wide area. Mobile carriers push accuracy down further, sometimes placing a phone in a city tens of kilometers from where it actually is, and a VPN or proxy will always show the server's location instead of yours.
Common uses for IP lookup
People run IP lookups for a handful of practical reasons: website owners checking where suspicious traffic is coming from, developers debugging why a visitor is seeing the wrong region or currency, IT teams verifying a remote employee's connection, and anyone curious whether a given IP Number belongs to a residential ISP, a business, or a hosting provider running a VPN or proxy.
Looking specifically for one IP format? IPv4 Lookup and IPv6 Lookup cover each format on its own. Need domain registration details instead of geolocation? That's a separate lookup, and our WHOIS IP lookup tool handles that.
One IP Tracker, Every Way to Search It
Different people search for this in different words. Here's what IP Number Tracker actually does under each of them.
IP Tracker
Track any IPv4 or IPv6 IP in real time, starting with the one you're connected from right now.
IP Finder
Find the ISP, ASN, and organization behind an IP, the same network details engineers check first.
IP Locator
Locate the approximate country, region, and city an IP is routed through, using regularly updated GeoIP data.
IP Checker
Check whether an IP belongs to a residential ISP, a business network, or a hosting provider.
IP Geolocation
See geolocation results plotted on a live map, alongside the timezone associated with that location.
WHOIS IP Lookup
Cross-reference domain registration details separately with our WHOIS Lookup tool.

IPv4 vs. IPv6
IPv4 looks like 203.0.113.42 , four numbers separated by dots. IPv4 was designed in the 1980s and offers about 4.3 billion unique IP Numbers, a number the internet has now outgrown. IPv6 looks like 2001:db8::ff00:42:8329 , eight groups of hexadecimal digits, and provides a virtually unlimited number of them. Most networks today run both side by side, and your device may report either depending on your ISP and network configuration.
Public vs. private IPs
The IP Number shown at the top of this page is your public IP Number, the one your router presents to the wider internet. Every device behind that router (your laptop, your phone, a smart TV) also has a private IP Number, usually something like 192.168.1.14 or 10.0.0.23, only visible on your local network. Websites never see your private IP Number, they see the single public one your router shares on behalf of every device connected to it, which is why checking from your phone and your laptop on the same Wi-Fi usually returns the same result.
Why does my IP Number change?
Most home internet connections use a dynamic IP Number: your ISP assigns it from a shared pool and can reassign a different one after a router restart, a modem power cycle, or simply after a lease renewal in the background. Switching networks, moving from home Wi-Fi to mobile data, or connecting through a VPN, changes it immediately, since you're now routed through a different provider entirely. A static IP Number, by contrast, stays fixed and is typically something you'd request (and often pay extra for) from a business-grade ISP plan.
Why your IP Number matters
- Privacy : your IP Number can reveal your approximate location and internet provider to websites you visit.
- Geolocation : streaming services, search results, and pricing are often tailored based on the region your IP Number maps to.
- Hosting & networking : configuring DNS records, firewalls, or remote server access usually requires knowing your current public IP Number.
- Gaming & remote access : port forwarding, hosting a game server, or connecting to a home network remotely all depend on knowing your public IP Number.

People Also Ask
What is IP Number Tracker?
IP Number Tracker (IPNumberTracker.com) is a free IP tracker and IP lookup tool. It shows your public IPv4 and IPv6 IP Number the moment the page loads, and lets you look up the location, ISP, ASN, and organization behind any IP Number, with no account or sign-up required.
What's the difference between an IP tracker, IP finder, and IP locator?
Not much in practice, they're different names for the same core task. "IP tracker" and "IP finder" usually mean checking your own or another IP Number; "IP locator" and "IP geolocation" emphasize the location result specifically. IP Number Tracker combines all of them in one search box: track, find, and locate any IPv4 or IPv6 IP Number from the same page.
Is IP tracking legal?
Yes. Websites routinely log visitor IP Numbers for security, analytics, and abuse prevention. An IP Number alone is not considered personally identifying in most jurisdictions, though laws vary by region.
Can I find the location of an IP Number?
You can get an approximate location, typically city-level, based on your ISP's nearest hub, using a GeoIP database like the one that powers this tool. It won't reveal an exact street location.
Can I hide my IP Number?
Yes, using a VPN, proxy, or Tor. These route your traffic through another server, so websites see that server's IP Number instead of your own.
Is it possible to find the owner of an IP Number?
You can identify the ISP or organization an IP Number is allocated to (shown as ISP/ASN above), but the specific individual behind it is only known to that ISP and generally requires a legal request to obtain.
What information does IPNumberTracker.com provide?
Your public IPv4/IPv6 IP Number, approximate city/region/country, timezone, and network details like ISP and ASN, all looked up server-side from your connection, with no account or sign-up required.
